Wooden arrows
Wood is the arrow traditional archery grew up with, and still the first choice for a longbow or a horse bow. Our wooden arrows come in four grades: whitewood and birch for practice and first dozens, Port Orford cedar for competition, and the tiger belly Tigris for the archer who wants the best set on the line. Every dozen is cut to your draw length, spined to your bow and fletched in your colours.

Bamboo arrows
Bamboo is the arrow of the Asiatic horse archer: light, springy and tough. Ours are cut from premium bamboo, treated for durability and fletched in the index and hen colours you pick, so they fly true off a horse bow and look right in a back quiver.
Shooting at a medieval fair or a re-enactment? Bamboo and our Tigris cedar are the two we class as historically inspired arrows.

Solkarra Atlas
Carbon arrows and arrow shafts
Solkarra Atlas carbon wears a map: fine gold contour lines and a compass rose along a gloss black or deep blue shaft. Straightness is +/- .003 and every shaft is spine rated from 400 to 800. Buy them as carbon arrows, fletched, cut, fitted and ready to shoot, or as bare 32 inch arrow shafts to build your own.

Before you order
Which spine and length do I need?
- Measure your draw length. Draw an arrow to your anchor and have a friend mark it at the back of the bow. Add an inch: that is your arrow length.
- Work out the weight you draw. A bow’s marked weight is measured at 28 inches. Draw further and it pulls more; draw shorter and it pulls less.
- Pick the spine band that holds that weight. For wood and bamboo, choose the band your draw weight sits in. Between two bands, or shooting heavy tips, go one band stiffer.
- Not sure? Tell us. Put your bow, its marked weight and your draw length in the order note and we match the spine before we cut.

Atlas carbon spines
Five spines, 400 to 800. Lighter bows and shorter draws sit at the 800 end, heavier bows and longer draws at the 400 end. Carbon spine also moves with arrow length and tip weight, so leave a note with your bow and draw and we match it.
About the arrows
Made at the Solkarra bench in Western Australia
Traditional Arrows is Solkarra’s arrow shop. Our wood and bamboo arrows are hand crafted in Western Australia from sustainably sourced timber and bamboo: each shaft is straightened, sealed with natural linseed oil and fletched by hand, then cut to the length you order. The Tigris set is weighed so the whole dozen sits within 10 grains.
Solkarra Atlas is our own carbon range: premium shafts printed with a gold contour map, spine rated before they are cut, and built into arrows on the same bench as the wood.

Traditional arrow questions
How long should my arrows be?
Your draw length plus about an inch. Wooden arrows come in 24 to 33 inches, fletched Atlas carbon in 24 to 31 inches, and bare Atlas shafts arrive at 32 inches for you to cut, or we cut them to the length in your order note.
What spine do I need for my bow?
Match the spine to the weight you actually draw at your draw length. The spine guide above has the bands. If you are unsure, leave your bow’s weight and your draw length in the order note and we pick it for you.
Can I choose my feather colours?
Yes. Wooden, bamboo and fletched Atlas carbon arrows take an index feather colour and a hen feather colour from 19 colours. Atlas carbon also lets you pick the nock colour.
Are your arrows legal for TAA competitions?
Our Port Orford cedar arrows can be built to Traditional Archery Australia competition standards. Say so in the order note at checkout.
What tips come fitted?
Port Orford cedar arrows come with Longobardo tips, or brass bullet tips on request. Tigris arrows carry Italian Longobarda heads. Fletched Atlas carbon arrows take 75, 100 or 125 grain field tips. Bare shafts come with no nocks, inserts or points.
